Netizens outraged over Huckle’s lenient sentence

PETALING JAYA: The sentencing of paedophile Richard Huckle made headlines throughout the world, with the media in Britain, his home country, decrying the man and his crimes.

The Guardian and The Times called him one of Britain’s worst predatory paedophiles. The Telegraph branded him “Britain’s worst paedophile”.

The New York-based International Business Times ran a piece on the difficulties of shutting down child abuse sites.

Los Angeles Times went with the headline “British man who boasted of abusing children in Malaysia gets 22 life terms”, focusing on Huckle’s posts on his abuse techniques on the sites.

The Washington Post also echoed the outrage of the public with its headline of “1,000 deaths is too good for you: Serial British pedophile receives 22 life sentences”.

Germany’s Deutsche Welle called Huckle “horrifying” while Russia’s RT called him the “UK paedophile”.

In Malaysia, the public continue to voice its disgust and anger at Huckle.

Joy Amin, on Facebook, wanted to see Huckle take “100 lashes” in Malaysia.

“Those are little kids, for God’s sake. The UK I feel is lenient to criminals like this. Even serial killers don’t get the death penalty,” he said.

Nithya Raman was so angry at the inadequate sentence that she called for Huckle to be burned alive: “No mercy for him.”

Alan Poh said Huckle’s sentence should have been “230 years” instead of 23 years, while Ruzeeta Yeong feels there is “no justice at all” if the 22 life sentences are served concurrently.

“The mangkuk (idiot) will be in his fifties when he is released and he will continue doing what was left unfinished.

“How sad,” she added.

Many also called for Huckle to be castrated, saying that he was an animal for abusing 23 Malaysian and Cambodian babies and children over a decade.
